Internships

Internships

Throughout the year, Make-A-Wish New Jersey offers a variety of unpaid internships to provide opportunities for college students to receive academic credit and valuable work experience in the nonprofit field.

Our internship program aims to cultivate students from many fields and disciplines. We offer interns a substantive learning experience that affords them the opportunity to contribute to our work, and the knowledge, skills and tools they may need to continue in the nonprofit field.

Complementing their individual departmental placement, interns are collectively engaged in a comprehensive program that explores the Make-A-Wish mission through the agency’s structure as a whole and its role in a wish child’s life.

All of our internships are unpaid. Applicants in need of financial aid to support their internships are encouraged to explore potential funding sources through the career services or alumni offices on their campus. Many colleges offer their students scholarships, stipends, or off-campus work-study to facilitate participation in public-interest internships.

Internship Calendar and Application

Interns are accepted on a continual basis throughout the year, depending on internship availability.  Also, certain internships may have different requirements. Application is made by sending a current resume with cover letter to Kristina Maglietta, Director of External Events - kmaglietta@wishnj.org. Please indicate which internship you are applying for, the semester/trimester available and any curriculum requirements.

Types of Internships Available

We currently offer three types of internships. (Multiple applicants may be accepted into each. Detailed descriptions attached below).

  • Program Services interns focus on developing management and administrative tools, assisting the Outreach and Volunteer departments, and possible solicitation of donations from vendors.
  • Development interns focus on fund-raising, with possible experience in event planning, auction item solicitation, social media, donor solicitation, data management, and individual and corporate donations.
  • Administration interns focus on the infrastructure of Finance and Technology which support the chapter’s program services and fundraising activities.  This infrastructure includes physical assets such as computer hardware, software applications, office equipment and facilities, as well as virtual assets, such as controls, data and web activities.
