Individuals, corporations and foundations throughout the state host fundraisers and events to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey. These events play an important role in helping us raise funds to continue granting the wishes of children battling life-threatening medical conditions. We are grateful to all of the community groups, individuals and companies that operate events to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey, such as:
| In 1985, Bill Getherall was asked by a business associate to participate in a golf outing to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey. Bill had heard about our new Foundation (Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America was founded in 1980 and the New Jersey chapter was founded in 1983) and thought the mission was great and decided to participate. Inspired by that outing, Bill decided to start his own golf outing the following year. Bill said, “I never ran a golf outing before and I didn’t know what I was doing. I just went around to businesses and asked them for help and asked my friends and associates to play.” His hard work and persistence paid off. That first year, with the help of Walter Farley, “Tee Off for the Kids” raised an astounding $22,000 for our chapter! Since then, the annual outing has raised over $800,000 to date and is the longest running event benefiting our chapter. Bill remarked, “It got a little bit easier to run each year and now I’m committed for life.” |
