When life presents you an opportunity to go on the trip of your dreams, where would you go? George decided his wish would be to go to Bora Bora because he had seen it on TV and had always wanted to go. It was also one of his life goals to get there!
This past summer, George and his family flew to Bora Bora for George's dream-come-true trip. When he returned from his trip, George sent us pictures and a fantastic letter about his trip. We think our wish kids and families give the best feedback, and wanted to share his letter with you.
When I was first diagnosed with my cancer, I had no idea what pain and suffering would be waiting for me in the future. However, I had come to the realization that it was an indescribable pain - a pain that was not only physical, but also mental. Because of this, I was not able to interact with my friends like a normal teenager. I also missed out on a lot of family events and due to my treatments, my family had to miss out on our summer vacations. When I found out that my wish was going to be granted by Make-A-Wish, I was overcome with emotion because it was always a dream of mine to go to Bora Bora.
When we first arrived in Bora Bora, I was overwhelmed with the beauty of the island. The water was so blue, I would not have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. As we got onto the boat and arrived at our hotel, we were submersed into the culture. We were greeted by a guy dressed in island clothing who was playing music. Throughout the week, we snorkeled almost every single day. We then participated on an eco-tour in the ocean, where my family and I swam in the coral reefs, with sting rays and huge sharks! It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I enjoyed every moment of the trip, and it really made up for the vacations that I missed out on in previous years. Knowing that I was all alone in the middle of Pacific Ocean really made me feel like I was able to just relax and enjoy myself. This trip has allowed me to make memories that will last a lifetime, and I will be able to share the stories with my friends and family for years to come.
