Sofia was born with an AV fistula, an abnormal connection between an artery and vein. On Sofia’s second birthday it hemorrhaged, causing a stroke that led to long hospital stays and rehabilitation. Talking about her favorite princesses and wish to go to Walt Disney World Resort helped keep her spirits up as she worked to regain strength.
But it wasn't just Sofia who was impacted by the wish.
“The whole family was extremely excited to have Sofia's wish granted,” Sofia's mom Stephanie said. “I know that Sofia is only three, but all she talked about was getting her wish. Sofia worked tremendously hard in rehab to get to where she is now and the wish gave her something to look forward to. It gave us all something to look forward to.”
Sofia’s wish was granted just in time for her family to celebrate Sofia's third birthday with the princesses at the Walt Disney World Resort. As part of her special day, Sofia got a princess makeover at the Bibbidi Boppidi Boutique so she could look like her royal friends.
Sofia had the birthday celebration of a lifetime. The entire family was so happy and grateful for this magical vacation.
Producer Brian Johnston chronicled Sofia’s story and her wish experience in a segment that aired on the New Jersey Cablevision channel.
